We are a village school, with approximately just over 100 pupils, situated in the beautiful Blackdown Hills near Honiton, East Devon. Our Grade II listed building is situated in spacious grounds with a large playing field, play equipment, vegetable garden and even our own swimming pool! An extension was built onto the school in 2009 resulting in light and airy classrooms in addition to a large hall with views over the hills.
At Upottery, we pride ourselves on our nurturing and caring ethos. Due to our size, relationships within the school are very strong- staff know all of the children regardless of which class they are in and the older children enjoy playing and helping with the younger ones. Academic standards are high with a determination that all pupils should reach their potential. In addition we ensure children receive a broad and balanced curriculum, and an extensive after school provision with a variety of after-school clubs. Upon leaving Upottery, most of our Year 6 children move to Honiton Community College but we also send children to Colyton Grammar and King's School in Ottery St Mary.
The school is at the heart of the local community and is well supported by the community in return. Our extremely active PTFA organise numerous school events throughout the academic year including discos, fairs and supply tea and cake at numerous school events. The school has good community links with the church and this is used as a venue for Harvest Festival; the Christmas carol service; and the Year 6 leavers service in July, furthermore children and the school are invited to take part in a service at St Mary's church for the local parishioners once a year. Each July the whole school puts on a performance for the parents in the Manor Rooms (village hall). We also have strong links with Upottery pre-school who are located on our site and are the main source of intake in Reception.
I hope our website gives you a flavour of what Upottery can offer your child but there is no substitute for seeing us in action! Please contact the school office to make an appointment - I look forward to welcoming you.
